Why does your Capsicum Favorit Deep Orange have fine webbing? Diagnose the cause and fix it with our step-by-step guide.
Spider mites are the most common cause of fine webbing on ornamental peppers, particularly in warm, dry conditions. They pierce plant cells to feed, leading to stippling (small yellow dots) and the production of silk webs to protect their colonies.
A specific, highly aggressive species of mite that thrives on Capsicum varieties when humidity levels drop significantly. Their webbing often becomes much denser and more noticeable around the junctions of leaves and stems as the infestation progresses.
While less likely to produce 'webs,' extremely high humidity in stagnant air can cause fine fungal hyphae (mycelium) to appear as a web-like structure on the surface of the pepper foliage. This is often accompanied by a musty odor.
