Why does your Kalanchoe Passion Artemis have brown leaf tips? Diagnose the cause and fix it with our step-by-step guide.
Kalanchoe species are sensitive to high concentrations of salts from tap water or synthetic fertilizers. As the plant transpires, these minerals accumulate in the leaf margins, causing the tips to desiccate and turn brown.
As a succulent, Passion Artemis can tolerate low humidity, but extremely dry indoor air (especially during winter heating) can cause rapid moisture loss from the leaf edges faster than the roots can replenish it.
While Kalanchoes prefer to dry out, prolonged periods of extreme drought stress can cause the plant to sacrifice its leaf extremities to conserve moisture in the stem and core.
Excessive moisture in the substrate can lead to fungal pathogens that damage root hairs. Before the entire plant collapses, the first sign is often the inability to transport water to the tips, resulting in brown necrosis.
