Why does your Anthurium andraeanum Bianco have brown leaf tips? Diagnose the cause and fix it with our step-by-step guide.
Anthuriums are tropical plants that require high humidity levels, typically above 60%. When the air is too dry, the edges and tips of the spathes and leaves lose moisture faster than the roots can replace it, leading to desiccation.
Accumulation of fertilizers, tap water minerals (calcium/magnesium), or salts in the potting medium can cause osmotic stress. This buildup prevents the white Anthurium from efficiently absorbing water, resulting in scorched-looking brown tips.
Allowing the medium to dry out completely between waterings causes cellular collapse at the leaf extremities. Conversely, if the medium stays too wet, it can cause root damage that mimics drought symptoms by preventing water transport.
Overwatering leads to anaerobic conditions in the potting mix, causing root decay. As the roots die, they can no longer supply water to the furthest parts of the leaf, manifesting as browning tips.
